Humanist Annual Conference 2007 | Print |  Email

The HSS 2007 conference was held at the Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry, 26-28 October.

In the UK, we’re lucky to be able to take a liberal view on sexual relations, but elsewhere in the world, it’s not so easy.

Adultery Rocks

In Nigeria, Humanists are fighting a government bill that prohibits same-sex marriages and relationships while in Iran, the law specifies the size of stone to be used when adulterers are stoned to death.

This year’s HSS conference in Pitlochry looked at the most fundamental aspects of human life - sex, violence and power – and concluded that whatever your opinion, SEX MATTERS.

Speakers included Secularist of the Year, Maryam Namazie and Dr. Tuppy Owens, founder of The Sexual Freedom Coalition, a pressure group base that challenges sexual norms and traditional morality.

There were workshops, debates and the final of the first ever HSS Student Essay Competition as well as drinks, dinner and dancing. The conference began on Friday evening and ended Sunday afternoon.
