School visits

Gryffe High School, Renfrewshire

Ross Wright visited on the 9th of January

I was invited by the head of RMPS at Gryffe High School to come to be questioned about Humanist Philosophy but pointed out to the pupils that there is no set of rules, no doctrine or dogma to being a humanist except try to treat others well and live and let live.

The pupils asked about heaven (sorry no evidence!) life after death (ditto!) and about more complex issues of abortion and assisted suicide, on which I only reiterated my philosophy that individual autonomy and responsibility are key.
I kept emphasising Ithought I was a humanist, other humanists no doubt think differently, but I drew examples from my own life to illustrate whyI came to think as I do.

When asked whether I believed in god I simply shrugged and told them the truth .....that, as a 7 year old, I decided the idea was so infeasible as to be ridiculous...and from their reaction I think many had had that same epiphany!
