Prospects and Problems for Evolutionary Ethics (Leverhulme Lecture Series 2008) Print
Monday, 18 February 2008, 17:30 - 19:00

Though we are not hosting it, the student HS will help coordinate and publicize this event.

Professor Catherine Wilson is to present this year's Leverhulme Lectures, a series of five public talks on ‘Life According to Nature’.

The lectures will draw on recent literature in the burgeoning field of evolutionary ethics, as well as on classical philosophical sources including the Stoics, Kant, and Rousseau.

Professor Wilson will explore some of the relationships - actual, hypothetical, and imaginary - between nature, culture, and morality.

Some of the topics to be addressed include the Darwinian account of the origins of human morality; the problem of “naturalism” in ethical theory and specialisation and the origins of social inequality.

These events are FREE but ticketed. Places are limited so booking is essential.

Location: Lecture Theatre 5, Appleton Tower, 11 Crichton Street, Edinburgh EH8 9LE.
