Media & Publications Sub-committee | Print |  Email

The Media & Publications Sub-committee (M&P S/c) is broadly responsible for our communications with the outside world, helping the Board of Trustees and its sub-committees to express clearly, in simple language, the policy statements and initiatives they’ve created.

The Media Officer heads this Sub-committee as a BoT member, dealing with all aspects of our Public Relations – handling press enquiries and devising campaigns (like Thought for the Day and our free postcards), gaining us press attention.  The Editor of our flagship magazine, ‘Humanitie’ is also a key member of this committee, although reporting directly to the BoT.

The M&P S/c is also responsible for

  • Ensuring consistency of design & tone of voice across our publications, leaflets, internal communications, stationery and web presence
  • Web content & design, maintaining our daily media scan and posting news about the society to the web site
  • Developing and supporting marketing initiatives like T-shirts, badges, postcards and other promotional material.

Volunteers need to be able to express themselves clearly and powerfully in spoken and written English and have at least some grasp of the working methods and structure of the press and broadcast media. Familiarity with the world and language of hyperlinks, blogs and podcasts is also important as there is need to upload content to the web site.

Broadband access is preferable and ease with phone & web conferencing allows members to be based anywhere as a valued contributor to this exciting, busy and essential Sub-committee.
