The Education Sub-committee held its inaugural meeting on 13th January 2008. With its overall strategy approved by the BoT, the committee set out to realise a number of initiatives which would address the general theme of – ‘Education Without Religion – A Humanist Perspective’. Work began immediately on producing curricular materials appropriate to age and stage in both primary and secondary schools together with support for teachers. A third group prepared materials to support and advise parents as to their rights and the best ways of addressing their concerns.
All of these materials were launched nationally on 26th April at 2pm in Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh and are now available for download from the web site. Further developments for 2008/2009 include; training days for HSS members willing to visit schools and/or provide advice and support to parents who contact us, contact with all key players, nationally and locally, in Scottish education and reviewing, revising and augmenting our source materials. Anyone interested in contributing to the above initiatives should contact the Education Officer via the contact page. |
