The UK’s first ever atheist advertising campaign offers a light-hearted alternative to religious slogans threatening non-believers with hell and damnation. The writer Ariane Sherine came up with "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life," in a Guardian “Comment is Free” blog in June 2008 and it caught the public’s imagination. Professor Richard Dawkins, author of “The God Delusion”, offered to match all donations until £5,500 had been pledged, a figure that was reached in 24 hours. So far, over £130,000 has been raised, allowing the campaign to spread outside its original target area of central London.
The buses rolled out on January 4th in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow and cities across England and Wales, with the support of The British Humanist Association, Richard Dawkins and the Humanist Society of Scotland. For more information, visit http://www.atheistcampaign.org.
