That was the verdict on the "Atheist Bus" at the first meet of the group on the 18th January. Before proceedings began, the membership had a chance to see and be photographed with one of "Atheist Buses" which was in the Hotel car park. They are causing quite a stir across the city and in the media. After the photo - opportunity the topic of the day was a talk on the latest scientific thinking on the origins of life. This was delivered by Prof. Paul Braterman of the Glasgow group and his presentation greatly stimulated and engaged our minds. We were also mindful that that we enter 2009 without active member Alice Atkinson and also former stalwart Alex Scott who both passed away recently. February promises to be a lively month for us. We are looking forward to marking Darwin Day and are initiating two events for the occasion. On Monday the 9th February there is a debate with Christians, in Rutherglen Town Hall, in the evening ,on Darwin's ideas and their significance. Angela has done sterling work setting this event up and our speakers shall be led by Ross and Clare. On the day itself ,Thursday 12th February in the Glasgow Science Centre at 7: 00 we are sponsoring an evening where Prof. Roger Downie and Dr. Kevin O'Dell will give an account of the importance of Darwin's contribution to our understanding of the origin of all forms of life. There will be a Q and A session also. Admission is free with free parking. This promises to be a unique event. The next monthly will feature the Thomas Paine lecture on the 15th of February. .
