The law in Scotland stipulates that all students who have reached the age of 16 must be allowed to opt out of Religious Observance ie all services in church or school and all indoctrination in a particular faith.
These pupils should write to the head teacher citing this law and requesting that they be allowed to spend the time in useful study.
Useful resources to help students include:
- A leaflet “Support for parents and senior pupils”;
- A specimen letter which can be personalised and printed;
- A series of topics, designed for individual study by senior pupils.
We welcome articles on humanism or any related subject. See our awards page.
