Opportunity to Meet the Scottish Joint Committee on Religious,Moral and Philosophical Studies
Monday 12 March 2012 at 7.00pm – Glasgow Pond Hotel, Great Western Road
Did you ever wonder what children are taught in school these days under the aegis of Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies? Do they receive a comparative account of the main religions, together with the secular life stance, as the syllabus suggests or are they indoctrinated in one religion with a brief introduction to some others and not much at all about a life without religion.
The Scottish Joint Committee on RMPS asked for an opportunity to talk to members of the HSS and we have extended a cordial welcome.
Graeme Nixon, a member of the SJCRMPS will be giving a presentation and answering questions.
Our education officer was invited to their meeting in Edinburgh in November 2010. . The suggestion that schools should present a real choice to all parents and provide a suitable curriculum free from the influence of religion for those who would prefer it for their children, despite the fact that Scottish Government Guidelines advise it, was not welcomed.
This is a real opportunity for us to make our wishes known to a national body which makes recommendations to Government.
Tea and biscuits will be available.
