I had the wonderful and moving experience of marrying our two sons in 1999 and 2001. Was fortunate enough to conduct our first legal marriage and have since done over 100 such ceremonies, enjoying each one. What humanism means to me It provides a way to live my life with the freedom to reason and ask questions I perhaps will never have answered. Tolerance and inclusivity are important but trying to make life more enjoyable for oneself, family and those you meet makes sense. FuneralsNamingsSame Sex AffirmationsWeddingsHow I feel about being a wedding Celebrant Delighted and privileged. I love meeting couples of all ages and sharing with them the excitement of planning their marriage ceremony and then joining in the fun on the day My approach to weddings Having sent couples ‘Sharing the Future’ I usually meet them for about 1 hour, explaining legal background, suggesting structure and options for the ceremony. I provide an Aide Memoir of the main points plus an example ceremony and encourage couples to write their own ceremony. I’m always accessible for support and encouragement. What I love most about conducting weddings Being in the privileged position to help make sure the ceremony happens as planned and sharing a little of your joy. My advice to you Enjoy the preparation and relax on the day, weddings should be fun and enjoyable. My favourite piece of wedding poetry I love poetry and love many of the wide range and the additions to my own knowledge. The excerpt from Captain Corelli, and EE Cummings are favourites as well as slightly humorus offerings. My favourite piece of wedding music I usually discourage communal singing as it’s usually awful. Otherwise I enjoy most types of music with a slight preference for live performers. My most unusual location for a wedding to date Inchcolm Island, Machrahannish beach, 1000 foot up Tinto Hill and West Prices Street Gardens with 2000 ‘guests’ make it hard to choose. |
