Next up a fitness trainer then advertising. After University I worked as the Council’s Equal Opportunity person and finally with homeless people. I also worked as a trainer so have a good loud voice when needed! What humanism means to me Tolerance FuneralsI get some satisfaction from being able to assist families in a very practical way at a time when they are grieving and often shocked by the death of a loved one. Often families don't know where to turn when organising a funeral and it is gratifying to know that you can step in and take responsibility for expressing on their behalf what they would want to be said about a life they know well. It never fails to amaze me the number of unsung heroes I come across. It is a pleasure to write down all these individual histories of ordinary people who have left their mark in many small ways. It is a pleasure to be of practical help at a difficult time. NamingsTo welcome a new life into this world at such a happy occasion is a real pleasure. The ceremony enables all the family to get together and think about, not only how cute the baby is, but also their responsibility towards the baby and children everywhere. I especially enjoy welcoming the children of parents I have previously married. That sense of continuity is an added bonus to an already meaningful event. Like all the other ceremonies, the parents (married or not!)can have a big input to the ceremony with a little helping hand from me! Same Sex AffirmationsSo far I have not conducted a ceremony for a Civil Partnership but look forward to my first two early this year. Both ceremonies are personal friends which always adds an extra sparkle. I'm so delighted they have asked me and hope I can live up to their expectations. Watch this space! ...........I have now conducted both ceremonies and they couldn't have been more different! One a quiet family affair in the couple's favourite resataurant - the other a large celebratiion with a choir, singers, mini symbolic hot air balloon, celeidh band, salsa disco, firworks and much much more! Both were equally joyful and moving. I'd love to do more of these!
WeddingsHow I feel about being a wedding Celebrant Privileged My approach to weddings I never tire of weddings and approach each one as a very special event for me as well as the couple. What I love most about conducting weddings Getting to know people and sharing a very special moment in their lives. My advice to you Enjoy every moment of the preparations as well as the day. It all goes too quickly! My favourite piece of wedding poetry Janet Paisley’s “With these Rings” It does things to the back of my neck when I’m reading it in a stilled room where everyone is hanging on your every word. My favourite piece of wedding music There is such a variety chosen by couples that I really don’t have a favourite – though I must add that music plays a large part in my life. My most unusual location for a wedding to date Taransay Beach off Harris with the Faery Glen in Skye a close second! |
