About Me

I grew up in Glasgow and have lived on its southside all my life. My partner Gerrie and I share our home here with three of our five children, two cats and a lovely wee dog called Rupert. My dad's family came from Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway so I spent many holidays there as a child. Gerrie and I bought a house in Wigtown a couple of years ago. Dumfries and Galloway has become our favourite part of Scotland. We spend as much time there as we can and would love to develop more interest in humanist ceremonies down there.

I work in the voluntary sector campaigning and promoting better lives and services for people with long term conditions. When I started work, I used to visit families and talk to them about their lives. Now as a manager I get little time to do this. When my partner Gerrie became a celebrant with HSS and I saw how much she loved working directly with people. I thought, great I could do this too so I did the training and love it.

I am by nature a people person and my work has helped me gain confidence in public speaking. Being a celebrant with HSS has brought me back to helping people at sad and happy times in their lives. I really enjoy this and feel honoured to play a part at important times in peoples lives.

Funerals

Humanist funerals are a true person centred, celebration of a person’s life. I feel honoured to be able to help families at such a challenging time. I like to spend time talking to as many of you as possible to build a picture of what your loved one was like, of what they brought to the world. This allows me to write a ceremony that reflects their life and helps you in the sad process of this ending. I am also happy to speak to people who want to plan their own funeral. If this is what you would like, please get in touch and I will try and help wherever I can. Whatever your circumstance, I will help you plan what is best for you and your family.

Namings

Having children is one of the most live affirming, life changing events in your life. I know that my life changed fundamentally when I had mine. It’s also a time for celebrating and often parents like to do this with a ceremony. Why go to a place of religion if this is meaningless to you? Many do out of habit. Maybe you’ve not come across a humanist one. Well what I can offer is a real family, child orientated ceremony to mark the arrival of your child. You can have the ceremony anywhere you want and with the people you want to be there. It can just be you and your child. Some families have one ceremony for all their children when their family is complete. The important thing is that you get the ceremony you want and that is what I will try to achieve with you.

Same Sex Affirmations

I love working with same sex couples, helping you have a wonderful, bespoke ceremony away from the formality of the registry office. Sadly we can’t yet conduct legal civil partnerships but I hope that this will be something HSS will have sorted out soon. In the meantime, I can help you write vows that are meaningful and that reflect the love you have for each other. When Gerrie and I had our Civil Partnership ceremony, we had a perfect time, lit by candles, with our family and friends. Not a dry eye in sight! Weddings

Weddings are a wonderful time for couples and I love the fact that I can help make it exactly how you want your ceremony to be. Contributing to the happiest day of your life and helping you create lasting memories is a great honour. I am trained in the legal aspects needed for you to be married anywhere you want in Scotland. I can even offer my beautiful back garden in Wigtown! I work between there and Glasgow.
