It's such a diverse and rewarding occupation, and is certainly a talking point when you meet people.
FuneralsThe first question many people ask is "Is that not depressing?" but I can honestly say it's such a rewarding thing to do, and we all try our hardest to make the funeral as personal as possible that I usually come away after a Funeral feeling quite uplifted. The feedback I get from families means so much, like when people say "My Mum would have loved it" or remark on how honest and fitting the tribute was, or when they say "If you can get a laugh at a funeral, you must be doing something right!". Every person is unique, so every funeral should reflect that. I am constantly amazed by the people I meet, or the lives I learn about, and I try to reflect this in my tribute and ensure everyone there can identify their loved one. NamingsSame Sex AffirmationsWeddings2009 was my first year as a fully fledged wedding celebrant, having had time off in 2008 to have a baby. I am truly honoured to be part of such a special day in a couple's life. Every time I conduct a wedding, I think "it can't get any better" but then I have the privilege of meeting another couple, seeing another beautiful venue and being part of another happy day. A Humanist Wedding enables couples to write a unique ceremony that is personal and meaningful to them. I love the fact you can have fun with readings and poems, it doesn't need to be 'serious' and our ceremonies really reflect the personalities of the bride and groom. |
